GAKH
Nestled in Azerbaijan's northwest, bordering Georgia, lies the picturesque city of Gakh. Lush with orchards and forests, Gakh itself translates to "castle," hinting at its historical significance. The region boasts diverse climates, ranging from subtropical dryness in the south to chilly mountain peaks. Crystal-clear rivers like Kumruk, Eyrichay, and Gashgachay flow through the area, while stunning lakes and cascading waterfalls dot the mountainous landscape.
A haven for nature lovers, Gakh offers a thrilling contrast. In summer, temperatures can soar to 41°C at scenic Lake Ajinohur, while winter sees the mountain peaks plummet to a bone-chilling -45°C. The Ilisu State Reserve within the region is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including bears, mountain goats, wildcats, and boars.
Beyond the city limits, charming villages await exploration. Just northwest of Gakh lies Agchay, a small village nestled amidst picturesque orchards and forests. Further up, at an elevation of 1400-1600 meters, lies the historic village of Ilisu, once the capital of the Sultanate of Ilisu. With its rich history and breathtaking scenery, Gakh offers an unforgettable adventure for every traveler.
